LITERACY DRIVE: ULLAS Written Exam Successfully Concluded in Ferozepur The second phase of the written examination for the 2025-26 session under the ULLAS (Understanding of Lifelong Learning for All in Society) Project was successfully conducted across Ferozepur district on Sunday, March 22. The initiative aims to bridge the educational gap for those who missed out on basic schooling. Massive Participation and Volunteer Support Providing details on the campaign’s success, Ms. Seema, Principal of the District Institute of Education and Training (DIET), stated that D.El.Ed (Diploma in Elementary Education) students played a pivotal role as volunteers. In a significant milestone for 2026, these volunteers identified and registered approximately 7,200 non-literate individuals across the district, all of whom appeared for the written assessment. Ms. Aarti Sachdeva, the Nodal Incharge of the project, emphasized that the core mission is to empower individuals with the knowledge required to navigate their daily lives securely. "Through these government-led efforts, we aim to foster social development by ensuring that every citizen is equipped with basic literacy skills," she noted. The literacy model follows a structured approach to ensure maximum reach: D.El.Ed students conduct door-to-door surveys to identify non-literate residents. Teaching sessions are held at dedicated literacy centers on holidays to accommodate the schedules of the learners. All necessary books and stationery are provided free of cost by DIET. After a six-month learning period, an exam is conducted. Successful candidates receive an official Mark Sheet-cum-Certificate. Collaborative Success The smooth execution of the examination was made possible through the coordinated efforts of the DIET staff. Key contributors to the campaign’s success include Ms. Suman Kumari, Ms. Paramjit Kaur, Gagandeep Gakhar, Gaurav Trikha, and Dr. Harinder Singh, who worked at various levels to ensure no registered individual was left behind. The administration remains committed to achieving 100% literacy in the region through continued phases of the ULLAS project.
